HPX3000 Gives CVS Master Quality HD Capabilities
April 09, 2010

CVS added a new HD camera to it’s already robust arsenal of High Definition tools – the industry top-of-the-line HPX3000 camera.  “This camera is the Rolls-Royce of HD field cameras” said CVS owner Frank Bella. “It delivers cinema quality HD images at the holy grail of HD resolution – the 1080P native format.  We’ve coupled this camera  to a very high-end Fujinon Broadcast lens, and the combination delivers such stunning images that we can hardly believe our eyes”.   The Panasonic HPX3000 is regarded by many experts to be the best HD field camera on the market today, delivering images that are difficult to distinguish from 35mm film.  It is this same camera that is specified by major networks, such as the Discovery Channel and PBS,  for production of episodic work and documentaries.  The camcorder records on the widely acclaimed P2 format with the capacity to hold five P2 cards at once – an amazing 11 hours of record capability.

At the heart of the system is Panasonic’s full rater 2/3 inch 1080p CCD that captures 2.2 million mega-pixels of imagery up to 30 times a second.  The system also uses the recently developed AVC-Intra 100 recording codec – which enables each one of the 2.2 million pixels to be recorded at full raster size.  “It’s the best of all worlds in HD”,  claims Bella, “it not only delivers full resolution 1080p from the CCD’s, but the codec also records every pixel at native size – 1920x1080 – so that the pristine images are available in the edit suite in all their glory.   While many have considered older cameras like the Sony F900 to be the top-of-the-line in HD field cameras, the HPX3000/3700 has displaced the Sony’s now as the camera to have on your critical HD shoots. “ explained Bella.   CVS is one of only a handful of owners of these top end cameras in the Bay Area.

Creative Video’s HPX3000 has been busy since it arrived, working on many corporate video shoots as well as an Independent Film project.  Producer Dan Pavlik marveled at the cameras high sensitivity. “We had a scene to shoot in a tavern, and wanted to capture that dark ambiance. We went in, set the camera up, and without a single light fixture set we were amazed to see the incredible resolution and depth without adding a lot of gain. The images at 1080-24P were too good to be true!”,  added Pavlik.

CVS will also make the HPX3000 available in a multi-camera system for those shoots that require top notch HD imagery with multiple cameras.  “CVS has partnered with the handful of other production companies in NorCal that own these fabulous cameras, and we will offer a multi-camera system with all HPX3000’s and the powerful HS-450 HD switcher at its core. Our multi-cam system has all the bells and whistles built-in, and we’re offering it at a price point that will turn a lot of heads in the area”, said Bella.
